Libya and the Syrian Arab Republic are in danger of losing all of their heritage sites. 55 heritage sites across the world in total are in danger of becoming extinct. From Afghanistan to the United States of America, a total of 33 countries are failing to conserve their heritage. Heritage is the identity of the nation, categorized as cultural, natural, or mixed. On this World Heritage Day, we should realize the danger of losing tens of heritage sites across the world, which act as testimonials of the knowledge, skills, culture, values, and diversity our forefathers have conserved for us!

What is the Heritage and World Heritage Day 2024 theme?
Heritage is like the things we inherit from the past, which affect our lives now and what we'll leave for the future. It includes both our culture and nature, which give us life and ideas and keep inspiring us as time goes on.

World Heritage Day, also known as the International Day for Monuments and Sites, is celebrated globally on April 18th every year. It involves various activities such as visiting monuments and heritage sites, attending conferences, participating in round table discussions, and reading newspaper articles. Each year, the International Council on Monuments and Sites selects a theme for the occasion.
For every year's World Heritage Day, a theme is attached to educate people about the need to conserve and safeguard the heritage treasure. The theme for World Heritage Day 2024 is "Discover and Experience Diversity." This means we'll focus on how diverse and interesting our history is. It reminds us to learn about and enjoy the special heritage of different groups of people.

Why are Heritage sites important?
Every old place has a story, and these stories link the past, present, and future. World Heritage sites are really important for our culture and how we live together. They show us how things used to be and how they've changed over time. It's our job to take care of them so that the people who come after us can enjoy them too.
Around the world, there are lots of important old buildings that remind us of the amazing things people did there a long time ago. Every country has these special buildings that tell us about its history and traditions and why they're important.
But some of these special buildings are in danger of being destroyed. There are many reasons why this might happen, like people damaging them, changes in the weather, how old they are, how big they are, and whether they follow certain rules for building things.
