India is celebrating its 75th Republic Day on 26 January 2024, the same day in history when its constitution came into effect in 1950. The draconian British colonial acts ended as India replaced them with the Indian constitution, written by Bharat Ratna Ambedkar after all the princely states were merged to form India by Bharat Ratna Sardar Vallabhai Patel. Bharat Ratna is the highest civilian award of the Republic of India. On the eve of Indian Republic Day, India has conferred 132 Padma awards. They are one of the highest civilian awards bestowed in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri. 132 Eminent personalities will receive the awards this year, and among them are 6 Non-Indians- 4 French Nationals, A Mexican and a Taiwanese.

The President of India confers Padma awards at ceremonial functions held at the official residence of the President of India, Rashtrapati Bhawan, generally during March/April every year.

Young Lui is the CEO and Chairman of FOXCONN, a Taiwanese multinational electronics contract manufacturer. It manufactures its products for Japanese, American, Canadian, Chinese, and Finnish companies and is spread across 24 countries. FOXCONN focuses on 3 main Industries- Electric Vehicles, Digital Health and Robotics and 3 major technologies- Artificial Intelligence, Semiconductors, and Next-generation communication technologies. Young Lui, was awarded Digital Transformation Leadership by Harvard Business Review in 2021. He is awarded India's 3rd highest civilian Padma award, Padma Bhushan, for 2024.

Ravi Prakash Singh, Wheat Scientist, Mexico

Ravi Prakash Singh is a distinguished scientist and Head of Global Wheat Improvement at the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT). He has released over 550 wheat varieties over the past three decades. He was born to an agrarian family in Uttar Pradesh, India and worked as a soil scientist at Banaras Hindu University, India. He aims to produce more wheat varieties and improve the income of smallholder farming families. He is conferred India's 4th highest civilian Padma award, Padma Shri, 2024.

Fred Negrit- Dedicated Indologist and French Teacher

For conducting Indian studies, Fred Negrit has been selected for the coveted Padma Shri Award for 2024 by the Government of India. He is involved in community life through the Guadeloupean Council for the Indian Languages Promotion. He also works as a teacher of Indian culture and languages. He is instrumental in the launch of the West India newspaper.

The reason for his interests, he says, "I was raised by my grandmother, of Indian origin. That is partly a reason for my interest in Indian culture. Also, my interests are  because of the most diverse contacts I could have with the concrete manifestations of this culture from my childhood."
