Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has been a vocal critic of the F-35 program. In November 2024, Musk shared a video of synchronized drone formations on his social media platform, X, commenting, “Meanwhile, some idiots are still building manned fighter jets like the F-35.”
Musk elaborated on his stance, stating that the F-35’s design was flawed from the outset due to its attempt to fulfill multiple roles, rendering it “an expensive & complex jack of all trades, master of none.” He further emphasized the obsolescence of manned fighter jets in the era of drones, suggesting they “will just get pilots killed.” The F-35, created by Lockheed Martin, is renowned for its stealth abilities and intelligence-gathering features.
