Indian parliament was attacked by five terrorists on the 13th of December 2011. The attack was well planned and intended to kill the high-profile leaders in the Indian parliament. Sitting in Jammu & Kashmir Afzal Guru, an MBBS terrorist was one of the key conspirators of this attack.
Terrorists drove in the ambassador car of Vice-President Chandrakant, which they hijacked, and drove towards Gate-1 of the parliament. Kamlesh Kumari Yadav, CRPF constable stationed at Gate-1 was alert to notice that the people in the car were not any staff but terrorists plotting something bad. She turned back, rushed to her post, closed the gate and alerted the security system. The terrorists sprayed 11 bullets but could not kill her grit and determination to safeguard the parliament. Her valiant effort alerted the entire system.
Back in Kashmir, MBBS Terrorist Afzal Guru was happy that his terrorist friends were executing his plan but never understood that Indian security personnel thwarted their efforts by killing all the terrorists. In the process of neutralizing terrorists, 5 Delhi Police personnel and 2 Parliament security service personnel were martyred. A gardener and a journalist at the parliament also lost their lives.
All the security personnel who laid their lives for the country were honoured with medals. Kamlesh Kumari Yadav posthumously received the Ashoka Chakra Award. Afzal Guru hiding in Jammu & Kashmir was caught by security agencies and sentenced to death. However, it took 12 long painstaking years to get it to be implemented on 9 Feb 2013.
The martyrs’ families were compelled to give back their medals in 2006, asking for justice, to hang Afzal Guru. Why shouldn’t they feel deprived of justice when the ecosystem led by Arundathi Roy fought against terrorist death sentences when the Supreme Court had entertained petitions that were to stop the Afzal Guru death sentence? The government led by UPA never expedited the process of execution. They sat on the files. Bomb attacks on the high court happened on 7th Sept 2011 to release him. It took 12 years to hang Afzal Guru, a terrorist on 9th Feb 2013. The pain of martyrs ended.
