India encounters Pakistan in the Asia Cup Cricket Match today- 2 September 2023, in Sri Lanka. Exactly 77 years ago, on 2 September 1946, the seeds for the formation of Pakistan were sown with the power-sharing between the Indian National Congress and the Muslim League to rule British India with Viceroy and Governor-General Viscount Wavell at the helm of the affairs.
The head of this interim Government of India was Jawaharlal Nehru. He enjoyed the position of Vice President of the Executive Council External Affairs and Commonwealth Relations. The reconstituted cabinet was formed under him on 15 October 1946 & crucial Financial portfolio was held by Liaquat Ali Khan until this interim government was dissolved. On 14 August 1947, Pakistan was carved out of British India, and Liaquat Ali Khan became its first Prime Minister. India achieved Independence on 15 August 1947 with Jawaharlal Nehru as the first Prime Minister of India.

British succeeded in Dividing British India into India and Pakistan with the evil plot of the power-sharing formula. Thus, creating two nations India and Pakistan. Under Congress Jawaharlal Nehru’s leadership, we couldn’t save British India from dividing into India and Pakistan. It looked as if the intention was to rule India not to safeguard its territory. We also lost part of Kashmir to Pakistan because of tribal invaders.
India had numerous fights and wars with Pakistan- a nation formed based on religion. However, India remains the home of millions of people from different faiths, cultures, and traditions. No one proposed India as a Hindu Nation, even when the Hindu population was 84.1% (1951 sensus) of the population during partition. Hindus wanted to co-exist with other religions and India was globalized even before the world framed word for it.
India today is 5th largest economy in the world with a growth rate of 7.8% in 2023-24. British ruled India for more than 100 years, and after looting treasure worth crores from India, still lags behind India as the 6th largest economy. The Indian Kohinoor Diamond is still with England.
Pakistan ranks 41st in world economies. It faced a severe food crisis where it didn’t even have enough food reserves like Wheat Flour to feed its people. The sorry state of affairs is because of politicians there, who always concentrated on waging a war against India.
But, Pakistan has a chance to learn from its mistakes and recover. Leaders like Imran Khan who led Pakistan’s team to the first Cricket World Cup in 1994 are now in the political arena and vowing to help his country. On the other hand, India has been led by a nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the last 9 years, who built infrastructure, promoted cleanliness in India and toilets for the poor, supported entrepreneurship, and so India has raced to 7.8% GDP in the first Quarter of 2023-24. Under his leadership, ISRO reached even the Moon, which neither Pakistan nor Britain has achieved.

The Indian team will fight Pakistan today. Indians will cheer for their team but also will remember and learn from the mistakes of how India lost its territory under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru and Pakistan was born.
