Why are we Dependent So Much on Gmail?
An American search engine company, Google Inc., began offering Gmail-free e-mail services to the general public in 2007. However, the web-based e-mail services were launched on April 1, 2004, on April Fool's Day to select beta testers.
Gmail was launched for public usage in 2007 and offered 1GB of free e-mail storage space for every user, way more than its competitor e-mail service providers, Hotmail and Yahoo Mail.
The e-mail storage space is increased from 1GB to 15GB for all Gmail users.
Access from Multiple devices
The brainchild of Paul T. Buchheit, Gmail, launched 19 years ago, is web and application-based. The web-based feature enables users to access e-mail from various devices like computers, smartphones, tabloids, and other Internet-enabled devices.
The Gmail address of every user is unique and permanent. It is independent of the Internet service providers (ISP). Globally, as of 2024, 27,978 Internet service providers (ISPs) are active.
