Today we are celebrating Janmashtami, the birthday of lord Krishna. Let us know the back story of how he incarnated as Krishna. Why did he choose to take birth on earth?

THE BACK STORY:

Once upon a time, during Dwapara yuga all the innocent people are being punished by the cruel kings and demons. They used to torture women, children, and aged people and create a lot of nuisance for the saints by disturbing their yagnas and yagas. One day they all decide to go to Brahma Lok to meet Brahma Dev the creator to tell their plea and ask him to help them. Then Brahma Dev told the saints and the people that pray for Vishnu he will help you all to get rid of this demon as well as the cruel kings. So as the Brahma dev said,  all these people made their way to Vaikuntam where lord Vishnu resides, and started telling them all the problems they were facing and told him that only he could save them from this turmoil then lord Vishnu told them not to worry because he would soon be reincarnated as Krishna on the earth and kill all the demons and kings that are making innocents suffer then all the people and sages prayed the Vishnu and left the Vaikuntam.

On the other hand, Kansa, the son of King Ugrasena emerged as a king of Mathura and started torturing all the people by implementing new governance and collecting high taxes from the people. He had a sister named Devaki, who was married to Vasudev,  The king of Khandalawams. As soon as she was married, an unknown source called Akshavani from the Sky told Kans that the 8th baby of his sister Devaki was going to kill him. That day kansa decides to keep the newlyweds in prison and kill all the babies that were born to them.

Years passed.

After killing all her 7 babies cruelly Devaki was pregnant again and this time she decided to keep the newborn away from her brother and save him at any cost so, she prayed to lord Vishnu to save her child without knowing one of his incarnations was growing in her womb then later that night it started a heavy rain with a lot of thunder and Devaki knew that she was going to deliver a baby soon she requested her husband to save her child at any cost soon after in the middle of the night all the lights were gone and soldiers lost their senses and fell all the prison gates were open without causing any trouble for the people and they saw a huge light from the sky and that's when the lord Krishna was born. By seeing everything around them Devaki and Vasudev realized that he was not a normal baby and had some divine powers. Devaki requested her husband to save her son. Vasudev decided to take this as an opportunity to save his son as soon as he saw all the way that was created with no obstacle to stop him. he decided to take his son to the nearby village Gokulam where his cousin Yashoda and Nand stayed. On the way he was struck at the banks of the river Yamuna and prayed to Yamuna to show the way unexpectedly river Yamuna gave way to Vasudev and Krishna. After reaching Gokulam, he replaced Yashoda's daughter with his son and left the place hoping his son would save him and the entire people of Mathura from Kansa in the future.

Meanwhile, in the gokulam, all the people were astonished to see the beauty of Yashoda's son and all of them celebrated his birthday as a festival. On the other hand, Kansa got to know that Devaki's son was being replaced by another baby and passed an order to get the baby as soon as possible. He ordered all the powerful demons to play their part in search of his nephew but here in the Gokulam little Krishna is growing up as a healthy and naughty boy he was the favorite child of everyone in Gokulam. On the eve of his birthday yashoda and nandh decided to celebrate and invited the entire village to take part in the celebration and then the kansa ordered a demon named Poothana to kill the baby as she possessed a power that could kill babies through breastfeeding. Soon she disguised herself as a young woman and joined the celebration in the gokulam and when Yashoda was not near the baby she tried to breastfeed Kanha and kill him. She took him in her lap and started breastfeeding and then Krishna played his game and killed her by sucking her nipples until she was dead. All the people in the gokulam thought it was the god that saved little Krishna from the demon and prayed for his long life. In the same way, he killed a lot of demons that came to kill him and saved many people from them.            He used to play with his friends and enjoyed his childhood as much as he could by feeding cows as he was from the Yadus clan he used to steal butter from the neighborhood and play with the flute all day roaming around the city.

soon he became old enough to kill Kansa and left the people from gokulam and went to Mathura and then killed Kansa. Soon after the death of Kansa he took the responsibility of Mathura and ruled the people. After that, he thought of building a new city for the people of Mathura and prayed for the river Yamuna to allot someplace. As Yamuna was pleased with the request of Krishna she assigned a place to him and he also prayed to Viswakarma the great artist of gods to build his new city named DWARAKA. He built Dwaraka with instructions from Krishna and Dwaraka became the most secure and beautiful city in the world.

NOTE: we can see some of the traces of Dwaraka that were submerged in the ocean even now in this century here are some pictures of Dwaraka

After that, he married Rukmini and later married 7 other wives namely Sathyabhama, Jambavati, Kalindi, Miranda, dagnabit, and Lakshmana. Later, saved 16000 women from another cruel king and accepted them as his wives.

How did the Bhagavad Gita emerge?

Gita is one of the sacred books of our Hindus we used to hear a lot of stories about the Gita and it was told by Krishna to Arjuna during the times of Mahabharata the epic war which killed crores of people. The war lasted for 18 days and it was noted as the worst war in history that killed almost all the men from that yuga.

So the story begins with Pandavas and Kauravas they are from the KURU clan from Hastinapur, One of the largest and strongest countries during that time. Pandavas are 5 sons of Panduraj and Kunti (sister of Vasudev) namely Yudhistira, Bheema, Arjuna, Nakula, and Sahadeva. Kauravas are 100 sons of Dhritharshtra and Gandhari namely  Dhuryodhana, Dussasana, etc. After the death of Panduraj, Bheeshma took responsibility for his all grandchildren and decided to share the kingdom equally with the sons of Panduraj and Dhritharashtra. Pandavas are known for their good deeds and they used to possess divine power, on the other hand, Kauravas used to attract bad people they thought that getting rid of the Pandavas would give them the entire kingdom and make them struggle all their lives for the kingdom even after they grew up they had this cold war going on between them which soon led to the great war Kurukshetra, during this war all the good-hearted kings along with Krishna stayed with Pandavas and the people that possessed negative energy like karna asthma, Drona and Bheeshma stayed with Kauravas. Before the war Krishna promised Arjuna that he would be his chariot throughout this war and help him succeed in the war as the war started arjuna became anxious and told Krishna that he could not fight with the opponent as they shared the same blood and my heart was not ready to kill people for the kingdom. Then the Krishna showed his divine power and told Arjuna this BHAGAVAD GITA. That's how the Bhagavad Gita emerged. After the war was finished Pandavas won the war and ruled the kingdom with happiness this is how Krishna helped mankind to survive on the right path through the Gita.

we wish you a very happy Janmashtami to everyone may his blessings shower on you and your family.
