Today, on 23 August 2023, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved a monumental success, showcasing the technical prowess, grit, and capability of 1.4 billion people by successfully landing the Chandrayaan-3 Vikram Lander on the South Pole of the Moon.

Launch and Chandrayaan-3 Vehicle Details
Carrying the hopes and dreams of the nation, on 14 July 2023, ISRO launched the LVM3-M4 Vehicle into space from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota. It carried with it a payload mass of 3895 kg. The lander and the rover with payloads comprise the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft. The rocket was equipped with S200 solid rocket boosters. L110, C25 propellants and S200 inserted the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft into destined orbit. Here is how it happened.

Integration module phase
India's Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) Chandryaan -3 mission is the first mission by any country where its lander named Vikram has landed successfully near the south polar region of the Moon.
How had the Journey begun?
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee announced the Chandrayaan project on course on 15 August 2003. ISRO, with its hundreds of scientists, proposed the project idea in April 2003, and within months, the Indian Government approved it.
Chandrayaan-1 was launched on 22 October 2008. India could insert the vehicle into lunar orbit on 8 November 2008. Chemical and mineralogical mapping of the Lunar surface also was achieved.
Chandryaan-2 attempted a vehicle launch from the space station on 22 July 2019. Lunar orbital insertion happened on 22 August 2019, but on 6 September 2019, Vikram lander crashed onto the Moon's surface while attempting to land.
The Chandryaan-3 mission Vikram lander succeeded in soft land on 23 August 2023 at 18:04 (IST). India made history by becoming the first country to land near the little-explored south pole region of the Moon, joining the ranks of the United States, the Soviet Union, and China in achieving a lunar landing.

The Vikram Lander and Pragyan Rover conducted numerous experiments on the lunar surface and transmitted their findings to ISRO. This exploration provides us with new insights into the South Pole of the Moon, affectionately known as 'Chandamama' in India, revealing information that was previously unknown.
