A politician from Telangana slapped a gunman, a constable cadre government employee, Telangana in the entire public presence at an event.

Why is it News After All?

The gunmen are security personnel who work round the clock to ensure the safety of politicians, businessmen, eminent personalities, and many others by risking their own lives.

In this particular incident, a top minister from Telangana slaps his gunman when he doesn’t give him a flower bouquet on time to wish his friend on his birthday.

Earning as low as 25,000 Rupees per month, these gunmen, apart from protecting leaders by acting as security cover, are forced to do menial jobs which don’t come under their job profile.
They clean shoes, tie shoe laces, carry bouquets, carry umbrellas, carry files, and do work of all sorts.

They go beyond their duties because they love their families back home. The family awaits the monthly salary they earn. These gunmen, the security personnel do all this work without complaining because they know, that any question asked will be detrimental to their job security.

I can relate to how it hurts when one loses self-respect.
In one case in my career, I faced humiliation repeatedly, when my boss scolded me badly with slang words in front of the entire staff either directly or in whatsapp groups. It had hurt me and my family members who would see my chat transcripts as I reached home from the office. I kept my whatsapp status, that I would not tolerate loss of self-respect.

After a few days, we decided as a family- to leave the toxic work atmosphere by resigning from the job.

The answer may not lie in resignation always, but at least let the boss know you are hurt and will not work at the expense of losing your self-respect.

The least spoken torture the gunmen have to daily endure is no less than a slap.

There is no menial or big job. Every job deserves respect. Everyone in society must follow the dignity of the labour. Politicians must also remember that they will not be seen as strong figures in public when they subject low-rank authorities to humiliation. It instead exposes them more.

If salary is the only basis on which we respect people, we should clean our shit from Manholes daily. Can we able to do it?
