In India, Hindus celebrate their festivals every year, but with renewed restrictions, no other religion apart from Hinduism faces.
Diwali, the festival of lights, celebrated by Hindus to remember destruction of evil over good as Lord Rama returned Ayodhya after killing evil king Ravana who abducted Maa Sita. There are other legends associated with this day too. But let us restrict ourselves to learn how Hindus celebrate Diwali and what they are facing.
From Kashmir to Kanyakumari, Hindus celebrate Diwali, victory over evil by sharing sweets, by lighting diyas (holy lamp) and bursting crackers (spreading light).
Children and Elders come together to celebrate Diwali. But now Hindus are constantly targeted, policed for burning diyas and bursting crackers.
On Diwali, burning diyas is questioned by so called activists, as if it is releasing harmful greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere and melting glaciers in the Himalayas and in the North pole.
Diwali is not a Formula 1 race either where for fun gallons of fuel is wasted, releasing harmful greenhouse gasses every day. Diyas don’t create problems for airplanes either! They just spread positive atmosphere.
But courts, and governments have a problem with Diwali, they almost ban celebrating it. I will explain how.
No court in the world counts the number of hours New year celebrations must happen and never asks how many/types of crackers people have to burst. But, in India the Supreme Court restricts bursting crackers on Diwali. Time is allotted by administration on when to burst crackers, as per court guidelines. People are threatened with a circular of cases being filed against them, if they don’t listen.
Hindus now celebrate festivals with fear. With constant fear of policing, the poor children and adults feel suffocated during every festival.
The same courts, administration, activists which restrict, question Hindus celebrations never raise questions about ecological imbalance caused due to indiscriminate killings of goats during other religious festivals. The blood flows on the roads, nalas, yet there were no orders from courts.
They will not speak on new year celebrations- bursting crackers or indiscriminate killing of goats. Because those crackers emit oxygen and goats are pests in society and must be killed.
Do policing, if you have guts, for every festival. If you can’t then don’t interfere in Hindus festivals is what Hindu want, as equal justice.
