How Cyclones are Named and What Remal Signifies?
Cyclones, which are named using feminine names in alphabetical order, are identified and updated by an international committee of the World Meteorological Organization. To adhere to these rules, five tropical cyclone bodies – the ESCAP/WMO Typhoon Committee, the WMO/ESCAP Panel on Tropical Cyclones, the RA I Tropical Cyclone Committee, the RA IV Hurricane Committee, and the RA V Tropical Cyclone Committee – work across the world.
Remal, which means Sand in the Arabic language is named by Oman. 13 countries- Bangladesh, India, Iran, Maldives, Myanmar, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and Yemen led the WMO/ESCAP Panel on Tropical Cyclones and decided on naming tropical cyclones in the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea.
