As Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympics, once said,'The most important thing is not to win but to take part.' This spirit of participation and excellence was first embodied in the ancient games held in Olympia, Greece, where athletes competed not just for victory, but for honor and glory in the name of Zeus." The Olympic Games began in ancient Greece, with the very first event held in 776 BCE at Olympia, a sacred site in the western Peloponnese. These games were a tribute to Zeus, the chief Greek god, and were part of a larger series of religious and athletic festivals. Initially, the Olympics featured just one event: the stadion race, a short sprint. As time went on, the games grew to include a range of other sports, including wrestling, boxing, and chariot racing. The original Olympics continued until 393 CE, when Roman Emperor Theodosius I ended them to curb pagan practices. The modern version of the Olympics was revived in 1896, when the International Olympic Committee (IOC) organized the Games in Athens, Greece, bringing back the tradition with a new international scope. The 1896 Olympics were held in Athens, Greece. This marked the first modern Olympic Games, and they took place from April 6 to April 15, 1896. The Games were organized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), founded by PIERRE DE COUBERTIN, who aimed to revive the ancient tradition of the Olympics and create a global sporting event.
